New technology
I love learning new things! The poll everywhere website that we learned about in class was really neat. I always wondered how they did those text message voting on American Idol! I think it would be a really neat thing to incorporate into a lesson every now and then. Of course there may be some controversy about using cell phone in class, but I think it would be worth the battle. The students would be learning new things without even knowing they where learning. I also think the picasa would be a great way to get to know everyone in class on the first day. Not only does it teach them how to use search engines but it would require them to put some outside thought into their project. They are many ways that we can use both applications in our own classrooms one day!

I think Picasa would be a great tool to use for the first day of school. I think I would use that as a way to get to know about my students. This is something all levels could do. The level grades can use a model and teacher help while the higher grades can see examples of other works to see how theirs should look. After seeing the movie Avatar the students will be telling the teachers what to do all through our minds in 2154. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the way you are willing to challenge some of the "normal" activities in the classroom to benifit the children. The texting in class using pulleverywhere would be so much fun for students! Also, Picasa could be a great tool in the classroom on the first day of class or as you said, to learn about the computer.
ReplyDeleteI think using Picasa the first day of school is an excellent idea. The students will all be able to explain to the class who they are and this could benefit the learning process if they are comfortable with their peers.
ReplyDeleteI agree that cell phone use in the classroom is a controversial idea but would be worth the fight in the end. I think they could be a huge benefit in the classroom. Especially with technology like, Polleverywhere, to help teachers present ideas. Great job on your post.

While it is somewhat controversial, I think letting children use their phones in class for things like Poll Everywhere will make learning more fun and easier. I know when it comes to me, if I'm having fun while I'm learning I remember a lot more of what I learned later on. And besides, could you imagine the looks the students would give the teacher when they told the students to take out their phones?
ReplyDeleteJamie,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your blog and agree with your comment that " the students would be learning without realizing it." This is the best part about using technology in the classroom. If we, as teachers can make learning exciting and fun for the students, they will be encouraged to participate and enjoy the process without the obligatory groan that accompanies some subjects.

Jaime,
ReplyDeleteI thought the hybird class was too intense for me, but I do respect your comments on the class. It was fun to a point and yet I felt it wasn't for me. I just became so frustrated because I could not hear the teacher clearly only because he was fading in and out too much. And the loudness from the students who were not suppose to be there, made it worse so I could not hear him talk even as I turn the speakers louder & louder. I did enjoy the form certificate with adding the seals, that is a great assignment to teach middle & high school students. I felt the hybird class was too fast for me but I did my best. And I respected all of you how we all tried to help one another without Chester being there.
